New homes come with a one-year warranty, ensuring buyers of exceptional craftsmanship and quality materials. However, it’s important to note that maintaining the plumbing system in your home requires some effort on your part.
Basin Drains: The sink’s mechanical drain plug tends to collect loose hair and debris over time. To keep it functioning well, it’s advisable to disassemble and clean the mechanism at least once annually. Locate the lift lever beneath the basin, loosen the nut, remove the lift lever and drain plug, clean them, and then reassemble.
Bathtubs and Showers: To prevent water from the shower splashing onto the surrounding floor, make sure the shower curtain remains fully within the tub enclosure and snug against the end walls. After each shower, inspect the floor and wipe up any water to prevent swelling and warping of the subfloor. While the ceramic tile in the bathtub enclosure should be wiped down after every use to prevent mildew, keep in mind that silicone may degrade over time and should be checked and reapplied as needed. Regular cleaning of the bathtub drain is also recommended to remove hair and debris buildup.
Showerheads: Showerheads are fitted with flow control devices to meet water conservation regulations. Please avoid removing the flow restrictor, as doing so can result in a high-pitched squeal.
Toilets: All toilets are designed as low-flow models with a 1.6-gallon flush. To ensure proper flushing, hold the lever down for a few seconds to allow enough water into the bowl. Neglecting this step may lead to the need for a second flush or potential clogging. In case of a clog, it’s advisable to clear it before flushing again. A household plunger can effectively remove the blockage. Please refrain from flushing items such as q-tips, dental floss, disposable diapers, sanitary napkins, and paper towels, as these can lead to issues and may void your warranty.
Lawn Services: To prevent damage to the hose bib valve during winter, it’s essential to drain it. Turn off the water supply to the hose bib at the indoor valve, which is located near the hose bib. Remove the hose and drain the exterior valve.
We hope these maintenance guidelines help you keep your home’s plumbing and other systems in optimal condition
